Debate: latte art
Latte art is the milk decoration on top of the foam in a coffee cup. How do you feel about it? Are you a fan of baristas showcasing their skills by getting the milk's temperature and texture just right and make your cup prettier or do you think it's all about the coffee and fiddling with milk patterns is a waste of time?
Latte art is definitely a skill. Does it add to the taste of the coffee? No. However, as others have pointed out on twitter, good latte art is pretty hard if the milk hasn't been steamed properly, so it's an indication of the skill of the barista.
ReplyDeleteThe visual presentation also adds to my enjoyment of my coffee; I'm a sucker for a fine cup and latte art just adds to that visual impact.
So, when all's said and done, I appreciate good latte art.
Brian.
I love latte art, and I usually photograph any cup of coffee I get served that has latte art. As Brian says, it shows your barista has got some skill
ReplyDeleteWhen venturing into an unknown establishment and ordering a favourite beverage a certain degree of trepidation surrounds the moments between payment and meeting the handiwork of the tradesmen behind the counter. Upon looking down and being met by a loving heart, a graceful swan or a crisp rosetta one cannot help but smile, safe in the knowledge that they are in safe hands.
ReplyDeleteGreat coffee is about taste but also about aroma, atmosphere, presentation and theatre.
Latte art adds to the joy of coffee, long may it live!
Some beautiful comments here! Still, some baristas don't do latte art even though they get their milk perfectly steamed and espressos expertly pulled - judging by the responses here and on Twitter, it seems that they should make the effort!
