Brunch chronicle and other debaucheries
It's like the spoilt only child in me came out again. I thought: 'I will keep quiet about it, keep it to myself so it doesn't get too crowded, too expensive and too commercialised.' But courtesy of chef @ChefTomKerridge and the first episode of his new show last Monday, the secret is out. I may as well join the crowd relishing in the glory of the Maltby Street market (@MaltbyStMkt). It is probably the most unconventional brunch spot I have written about so far. We started off with a cup of coffee from Craft Coffee (@Craft_Coffee), which, exquisite as ever, even though the cart was somehow much busier that day than on previous occasions.
Whilst I was indulging in the bliss of a smoky fish heaven, the meat-eaters amongst us were desperate to get their hands and lips on the newly famous salt beef sandwich from Monty's (@MontysDeli). Unfortunately they were sold out by 1pm and the heartbroken crowd had to turn their attention elsewhere. @Market_Gourmet was their choice and judging by the looks on their faces whilst tucking into their pulled lamb and pulled pork brioches in a big shed/workshop/Saturday restaurant, they didn't seem to regret it.
I've heard and read a lot of good things about this place and I am happy to confirm that they are all true indeed. The coffee was divine, surroundings as rustic as I like them and music very much pleasing and engaging (a remix of Sugarman by Rodriguez sparked a discussion about the film). Keep roasting Ozone, you're doing a fine job!
It was then on to the @Hansen_Lydersen smoked salmon sandwich which is quite possibly the most delicious and simple sample of the Norwegian greatness I have ever tasted.
And what can complete a weekend of indulgences better than a long overdue visit to Ozone Coffee (@OzoneCoffee)?
